Beautiful Highness is based on the experiences of the playwright’s family and celebrates the incredible grit and determination it takes to live with a mental health diagnosis. It is an intergenerational, heartwarming family story that is unsentimental and laugh-out-loud funny. ARIA Award-winning artist of Australian duo Bachelor Girl, James Roche, has composed the sound design.

ANZACATA is pleased to offer 40 free tickets to our members. You may register your place for this in-person play for either Sunday 21 May or Tuesday 23 May (registration for 23 may can be found here). One free ticket per member only.

Watch a short recording of Chelsea discussing the play and its origins.

"I wanted to celebrate the incredible grit and determination it takes to live with a mental health diagnosis." Playwright Chelsea Plumley.

The Story
Shelley - a spunky, wise-cracking battler - lives with a soundscape of non-stop Voices plaguing her every waking minute. The only relief comes from weekly Monday night visits to see her kids, who live with their Nana, daily phone calls to her siblings, and really, really loud music.

"Beautiful Highness is an intergenerational, reaffirming, heartwarming family story
that is unsentimental and laugh-out-loud funny."

Our Mission
To unpack the stigma and discrimination experienced by those living with and alongside a mental health diagnosis.

To foster understanding and empathy. Supporting our mission is the Cybec Foundation who have bought an allotment of tickets for us to give away to mental health organisational staff and clientele. We are also grateful for the support of our partner, ANZACATA, (the self-regulating association of arts psychotherapists in Australia, New Zealand and Asia). There are two performances for which ANZACATA is offering FREE tickets to ANZACATA members. You may choose either Sunday 21 May or Tuesday 23 May. Both events offer Q&A with the playwright, the cast and other professional mental health associations after the play. This event therefore attracts CPD hours and by attending the play and the Q&A members may meet some of their CPD hours.

"Audiences will be exposed to the intimate heart of a family undergoing tremendous challenges through the prism of love and laughter."

You can find more information about the play on the Beautiful Highness website or at Chapel off Chapel.
