Q: How do I change my membership level
Student to Practising
A: Go to your member profile > click "change" next to your Membership Level > select "Application for Practising ANZACATA Membership".

Q: What happens if I want to move to a non-practising membership?
A: You can opt for the "On Leave" category if you're temporarily stepping away from practice due to health or personal reasons (see above). This can be held for up to two years. Alternatively, "Subscription Only" membership is available for those not qualified and not practising but interested in staying connected.
Q: Does ANZACATA accept international qualifications for membership?
A: Yes. ANZACATA welcomes applications from individuals who have completed creative arts therapy training overseas, provided the qualifications meet our standards.
Q: How do I apply for membership if I have international qualifications ?
A: You can apply under Option B of our Professional membership category. ANZACATA Categories and Requirements. This pathway is for graduates of courses approved by one of the following recognised international bodies:

A: You must submit:
Q: What if my documents are not in English?
A: All documents must be in English. If they are not, you must provide certified translations.
Q: Is there a fee for assessing international qualifications?
A: Yes, there is a non-refundable application fee of $90 (+GST if applicable).
Q: What happens after I apply?
A: Your application will be reviewed by ANZACATA's Membership Sub-Committee to determine equivalency with ANZACATA-recognised training standards.
Q: What if I haven't completed 750 hours of placement?
A: You may be eligible for Provisional membership if you are close to completion of your required 750 hours, until you complete the required placement hours. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Q: Who is eligible for Student Membership?
A: You are eligible if you are currently enrolled in a Creative Arts Therapy course that is recognised by ANZACATA. These courses must meet the standards set by the Qualifications Authority and typically be at AQF Level 9 (Master's degree) or higher and are listed on our website under 'join'.

A: Yes. The Student Membership fee is AUD $49.00, pro-rated depending on when you join. Australian residents will also be charged 10% GST.

Q: What happens after I graduate?

Q: Is Tier membership being phased out?
A: From July 2026, ANZACATA will no longer accept new practising members who hold qualifications below AQF Level 9 (i.e., below a Master's degree in Creative Arts Therapy). This means graduates of Advanced Diplomas, Bachelor degrees, Graduate Certificates, and Graduate Diplomas will no longer be eligible for Tier membership.
Q: Why is ANZACATA making this change?
A: This decision aligns with evolving government expectations that mental health professionals hold qualifications at the Master's level. Increasingly, government-funded services such as the NDIS and Aged Care are requiring higher qualifications for therapists delivering clinical services.
Q: How does this affect current Tier members?
A: Existing Tier members will not be impacted by this change and may continue their membership. The change only applies to new applicants from July 2026 onward.
Q: What about students currently enrolled in Tier-level courses?
A: Students who begin their studies before July 2026 in a recognised Tier-level course will remain eligible for Tier membership upon graduation.
Q: Will there be a pathway to upgrade from Tier to Professional membership?
A: ANZACATA is exploring options to support Tier members in upgrading to Professional membership. However, no formal bridging program currently exists, and significant work is still needed to determine feasibility, costs, and requirements.
Q: What should prospective students consider?
A: If you are considering a career in Creative Arts Therapy, ANZACATA strongly recommends enrolling in a Master's level program to ensure eligibility for Professional membership and access to full professional benefits, including NDIS recognition.
Q: What happens if my ANZACATA membership has lapsed?
A: The process and cost of rejoining ANZACATA depends on how long ago your membership lapsed and whether your qualifications and practice history meet current currency requirements.

Q: What are ANZACATA's currency requirements for qualifications and practice?
A: To ensure safe and competent practice, ANZACATA assesses currency based on:

Q: When will I receive my membership certificate?
A: Certificates are issued monthly, typically in the first week of the month following payment. i.e payment was Sept 14, the certificate would be emailed the first week of October.
Q: Who do I contact if I haven't received my certificate or I need it urgently?
A: Please check your spam/junk folder and ensure your member profile has your current email address. If you still cannot locate your certificate, please proceed to the contact form below and select "Certificates" to "What is you query about?".
Q: How many CPD hours are required annually?
A: Practising members must complete 25 hours of CPD each year.
Q: Do I need to upload my CPD log?
A: No, uploading is optional unless selected for audit. Keep your own records.
Q: What qualifies as CPD?
A: CPD should be external to your regular work duties and aimed at improving your practice. Discuss your CPD plan with your supervisor.
Q: Is attending an art exhibition considered CPD?
A: Only if it's part of a therapeutic program and not a regular work duty. It must relate to therapy and ideally be paid or externally organised.

Q: What are the supervision requirements?
A: Practising members must undertake 1 hour of supervision for every 15 client contact hours. This can be one-on-one, group, or peer supervision.
Q: Can my supervisor be someone outside ANZACATA?
A: Yes. Supervisors can be ANZACATA Approved Supervisors, experienced ANZACATA members or experienced clinicians such as social workers, OTs, or PACFA/ACA supervisors.
Q: What is a dual relationship in supervision?
A: A dual relationship occurs when your supervisor is also your manager or someone with power over your employment. Supervision by a manager at work is generally not clinical supervision and cannot be claimed as such.
Q: How do I become an Approved Supervisor?
A: You must meet specific training and experience requirements, including supervision training, logged hours, and ongoing supervision-of-supervision. Details are available here.
