For Ying, an immigrant creative arts therapist working in her adopted country, the arts serve as a bridge connecting her root culture and adopted culture, and bridging the gap between her role as a therapist and her clients, and fostering a connection between her own identity and others. She will present the arts-based inquiries she utilised in her doctoral study and post-doctoral research project. Ying has employed arts-based inquiries to delve into her multifaceted identity as an immigrant, therapist and researcher, demonstrating how this enriches her clinical practice and research efforts. Presently, Ying is leading an arts-based research initiative focusing on the New Zealand Asian community. Through the use of the arts, she is dedicated to creating a safe and culturally sensitive space for exploring complex and sensitive research topics, shunning cultural appropriation in the process.
