In the excitement of gaining arts therapy work, the legal significance of negotiating terms and conditions, and signing a job contract can be overlooked. It is also necessary to know how, when and why to make a mandatory report; how to document your notes in case they are subpoenaed; and how to write reports especially court reports where you may be required to give evidence or be cross-examined. Clinical supervision is crucial for best practice and if you are a supervisor, it is important to also know the extent of your legal responsibility to your supervisees. This workshop aims to provide tips and advice to better prepare you for unexpected, respectful negotiations of workplace conditions as well as outlining legal aspects of this work around note-taking, report writing, the legalities around the use of images or video recordings, the handling of subpoenas and clinical supervision.
