In recent years, much of the world - has been confronted with challenges to peace-building and democracy. Despite scholarship on the intersections of governance, psychotherapy, and art, there has been little discussion on the role that art therapists can play in supporting open societies. In this presentation, participants will examine how they can position their clinical and community work in a manner that champions social justice, open dialogues, critical perspectives, and citizenship. In particular art therapy can support social justice by facilitating opportunities for visualizing injustices, representing voices, bringing people together, and imagining solutions.
